OSTEOPATHY

Osteopathy is a natural and recognised* way of relieving pain and addressing mechanical problems for all areas of the body.  It is suitable for all, from babies to the very elderly.

It is a physical style of treatment and osteopaths use their highly developed palpation skills (touch) to determine the problem and the type of treatment necessary for this to be resolved.  We will also advise on exercise, work ergonomics and lifestyle as appropriate.

Osteopaths are able to resolve sudden, long term and posture problems. Some of the many problems that osteopaths can treat include

  • Headaches and facial pain
  • Breathing problems
  • Sport injuries
  • Post- and ante-natal ailments
  • Back pain and sciatica
  • Work-related and repetitive strain injuries
  • Stomach problems including IBS and period pain

CRANIAL OSTEOPATHY

Cranial Osteopathy is a very gentle form of Osteopathy, making it ideal for treating everyone from newborn babies to the elderly.  Treatment can be to any part of the body and is aimed at reducing the restrictions and tensions that have led to the patient's symptoms.  Infantile colic, whiplash and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) respond very well to this type of treatment.

General Osteopathic Council (GOsC)

The GOsC sets strict guidelines and a Code of Conduct that all Osteopaths must adhere to, not least of which that each Osteopath has completed a minimum of four years full-time study and must provide annual evidence of continued professional development, in order to maintain their registration with the GOsC.  To further protect Osteopaths and their patients, the word 'Osteopath' is protected by the government, which means that it is illegal for anyone not registered with GOsC to call themselves an Osteopath.
